It took a little longer, but Ashland University's volleyball team earned its second win of the day on Friday (Sept. 4) at the Tony Banner Memorial at Clarion University.
The Eagles rallied to defeat North Alabama, 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 12-25, 25-21, 15-9), to finish their first day of the 2015 season at 2-0. Earlier on Friday, AU began the campaign in impressive fashion, taking a 3-0 decision (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) from host Clarion.
The key for Ashland in the final two sets of the North Alabama match was improved attacking – the Eagles had hitting percentages of .375 in the fourth set and .444 in the final set.
Junior outside hitter Alli Cudworth paced the offense with 21 kills, and added six digs and three block assists. Casey Clark, another junior outside hitter, earned her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs. Senior middle blocker Samantha Zuber added 13 kills, two service aces and a team-high six block assists.
