Eagles Fall To Warriors In First Match At New Complex

THE TURNING POINT: To start the day, the Eagles lost all three doubles matches by scores of 8-1, 8-1 and 8-2.

STAT OF THE MATCH: Ashland senior Meghann Fitzpatrick allowed the Eagles to jump out to an early team lead in individual wins, having won the team's only point of the match in first singles. In 2015, she led the team in all three individual win categories (singles, doubles, total).

In its first match of the season, the Ashland University women's tennis team fell by an 8-1 final score to the Wayne State Warriors. It was the Eagles' first match at the newly renovated and expanded Deborah Liebert Karl Tennis Complex.

"Wayne State is a very talented team," said Lexi Bolesky, AU's first-year head coach. "And for our first match, we were shown where we can make improvements."

Battling wind throughout the entire match, the Eagles lost all three doubles matches. However, they did win one of six singles matches, as Meghann Fitzpatrick, the only senior on the team, defeated Liv Peisachovitz, 6-1, 6-1, in first singles.

"I am proud of the attitude and effort put forth by the girls today," Bolesky said. "Everyone on the team was invested and supported one another till the final point."

UP NEXT: AU welcomes Hillsdale on the day of the new tennis facility's dedication. The dedication begins at 11:30 a.m., and the match begins at 1 p.m.

"We look forward to making the appropriate adjustments tomorrow," Bolesky said.
