AU Tennis Downs Lakers 6-3

The Eagles brought their Sunday best.

The Ashland University women's tennis team brought out their best performances on Sunday (Sept. 13) against the Lakes Superior State Lakers and walked away 6-3 winners.

The victory against the Lakers marks the first against a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent since October 10, 2013.

The Eagles won four of the six singles matches against LSSU.

AU senior Martina Baca defeated the Lakers' Tara Harvey 6-3, 6-4. Fellow AU senior Andrea Ruiz took down Laura Roberts 6-3, 6-0.

Also, getting singles victories was senior Daniela Alves and junior Meghann Fitzpatrick.

The Eagles improve to 1-3 overall (1-3 GLIAC). Lake Superior falls to 0-4 overall (0-4 GLIAC).

On Saturday, the Eagles fell at home to the Michigan Tech Huskies 5-4.

Fitzpatrick and Alves were both winners in fourth singles and sixth singles respectively.

Ashland will be back on the courts on Saturday (Sept. 19) at Findlay. The match will get underway at 10:00 a.m.
