Eagles Move Up To No. 12 In National Rankings

Despite falling one spot to No. 5 in the regional rankings, the Ashland University wrestling team jumped up to No. 12 nationally in the latest edition of the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association polls released on Thursday (Jan. 19) and Friday (Jan. 20).

Ashland redshirt senior Michael Labry (No. 1 nationally at 133 pounds) and redshirt junior Luke Cramer (No. 3 at 197) stayed put, while Brent Fickel (No. 7 at 149) is one spot higher than he was in the poll released on Jan. 4.

Seven Eagles are ranked regionally, with Labry first at his weight and Fickel, Cramer, sophomore Deaken McCoy (285) and redshirt sophomore Sebastian Vidika (125) all third in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Chandler Minnard (No. 5 at 141) and redshirt junior Jordan Murphy (No. 8 at 184) round out the list of Ashland wrestlers ranked in the region.

The Eagles have five duals left before they compete in NCAA regionals (Feb. 24-25) and NCAA Division II nationals (March 10-11). Ashland is 3-2 in duals this season, with both of its losses coming against ranked opponents.

UP NEXT: The Eagles have a home dual on Friday at 7 p.m. against Davenport University.
