Ashland University head women's basketball coach Kari Pickens has announced the signings of forward Annie Roshak and guard Sam Chable in the 2019-20 recruiting class.
"We are thrilled about the '19-20 class," Pickens said. "Annie Roshak, she committed early to us. A post player who, I am so excited about the potential she has here at Ashland. She's long, she's very athletic, very typical of the post players we've had, high IQ, and she knows how to win.
"Same thing with Sam. She is a shooting guard that has an incredibly-high basketball IQ. Knows how to shoot the 3 really well. Has a good pull-up. And both of them, they come from winning programs, they're high-GPA kids, and they're great people to be around. They're going to make our program better the minute they step on the court here."
Roshak plays for North Canton Hoover, where as a junior, she averaged 21 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, and was first-team All-Federal League, District 4 and Northeast Inland District, and third-team All-Ohio. Roshak will be a four-year varsity letter winner in basketball, as well as a two-year letter winner in volleyball.
Said Hoover head coach Abbey Allerding of Roshak, "Annie Roshak is one of the most talented basketball players to ever play at Hoover High School, and yet what stands out the most about her is that she is a selfless teammate and a woman of integrity. I am excited for her to be a part of a program like Ashland that has such a tradition of success, but also values these same qualities."
Chable plays at Centerville, and has earned first-team Greater Western Ohio Conference National League and honorable mention All-Southwest District honors. Chable will be a four-time basketball letter winner, as well.
Centerville head coach Adam Priefer of Chable, "Sam is a terrific basketball player but even a better person. Her desire to improve and commitment to her team is above all."
This season, the Eagles are ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II, and are 3-0 in the early going of 2018-19. Ashland will play host to the 2018 Ashland University Thanksgiving Tournament, Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 24-25) at Kates Gymnasium, with its games being Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. Missouri S&T and Sunday at 3 p.m. vs. Slippery Rock.
