An action-packed home opener for Ashland University's men's soccer on Sunday (Sept. 7) afternoon at Ferguson Field resulted in a 2-2 tie vs. Millersville.
The Eagles' 1-0-1 start is their best through two games since 2022 (also 1-0-1). The Marauders also are 1-0-1 to begin 2025.
In the 14
th minute, the Marauders got on the board first on a rebound goal by Roy Parkyn on the right side of the Eagle net. The scoreboard stayed that way until the 53
rd minute, when freshman forward
Tom Woodward knotted the game.
Woodward potted his first collegiate goal in a 1-on-1 with Millersville goalkeeper Kieran Finegan to level the game at 1-1.
It was déjà vu all over again in the 76
th minute, when Woodward juked a Millersville defender, then Finegan, and scored another unassisted goal into the open net to put AU on top.
The Marauders, however, brought the score back to a tie in the 88
th minute on a tally from Zander Leik. The assist went to Juan Ortiz Escobar.
BONED COMES UP CLUTCH AT THE END
- Sophomore goalkeeper Alvaro Boned made a finger-tip save in the closing seconds on Sunday – one of four stops on the day.
- Ashland out-shot Millersville, 15-11, and the Marauders took all four corner kicks in the game.
