A parade and rally for Ashland University's 2016-17 winter championship teams and individuals will be Tuesday (March 28) at 4 p.m.
The parade will start at Claremont Avenue/King Road near Old Abe in front of the Recreation Center, and proceed to the Corner Park downtown, located at Claremont and Main Street.
At the Corner Park, a rally will take place for Ashland's winter champions:
- The 37-0 and national-champion women's basketball team. It is the program's second national title in the last five seasons, and Ashland is the first 37-0 women's basketball team in the history of NCAA Division II.
- The men's indoor track and field team, which finished second in the country and saw sophomore Myles Pringle win a national title in the 400-meter dash. The team finish ties the program's best at nationals indoors, and for Pringle, it is his first national crown.
- The wrestling team, which placed sixth as a team at nationals and had its own national champion in 133-pound senior Michael Labry. Labry's national title is the program's first in 21 years, and the sixth-place team finish is the program's best since finishing fourth at 2002 nationals.
Included in the parade/rally will be the Ashland University band, Tuffy The Eagle and the AU cheerleaders. Coaches and athletes from the above sports will speak, along with Ashland Mayor Duane Fishpaw, Ashland University President Dr. Carlos Campo and AU Director of Athletics Al King.
Fifty T-shirts will be given away. Rally towels, courtesy of Ohio Health, also will be given away.
