Hall Earns All-GLIAC Status At Conference Meet


Ashland University senior Nick Hall turned in the best race of the day for the Eagles on Saturday (Oct. 22) at the 2016 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Ferris State.

Hall crossed the 8K finish line in 25:10.5, good for a sixth-place showing and first-team All-GLIAC honors. As a junior in 2014, Hall won the GLIAC title and earned conference Men's Runner of the Year laurels.

Joining Hall in the top five for the AU men were sophomore Stephen Kapes (26th, 26:00.7) and seniors Aubrey Jordan (29th, 26:15.3), Zach Humrichouser (35th, 26:24.0) and Tommy Menyes (49th, 26:48.5).

As a team, the Eagle men finished fifth with 136 team points. Grand Valley State (28) was the champion, followed by Saginaw Valley State (77), Hillsdale (111) and Walsh (122).

On the women's side, sophomore Emily Schumaker continued her run of leading the Ashland pack, coming across the 6K finish line in 24:06.1, good for 48th place. Schumaker has led the AU women in all five races in 2016.

Also in the Eagle top five were seniors Linda Morales (65th, 24:30.8) and Jackie Genetin (70th, 24:52.6), freshman Johannah Stefanek (79th, 25:19.4) and senior Cortney Haubert (80th, 25:23.4).

The Eagle women were 10th (305 points) in the final team standings. GVSU was first (35), followed by Northern Michigan (69) and Hillsdale (76).

UP NEXT: Ashland's men and women will compete at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional meet on Nov. 5 at Southern Indiana.
