Ashland Continues To Receive Votes in AVCA Poll

For the third straight time, the Ashland University volleyball team is receiving votes outside the Top 25 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll released on Monday (Sept. 11).

The Eagles (6-2) opened the season by winning their first six matches, including all four at the season-opening Quality Inn Ashland University Tournament at Kates Gymnasium.

Last week, AU trekked to Rolla, Mo. for the Middle of Everywhere Tournament and started with a pair of wins on Friday over Pittsburg State and Christian Brothers. The Eagles dropped their first matches of the season on Saturday, losing to host Missouri S&T and No. 18 Washburn.

Sophomore outside hitter Shelby Woycik was named to the all-tournament team, finishing last weekend with 68 kills and 44 digs while hitting .221. She is the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader in kills per set (4.59) and kills (133).

Junior middle Reanne Neal ranks fourth in the GLIAC in blocks per set (1.07) and redshirt-junior setter Kayla Pfeiffer is fifth in assists per set (9.96). The Eagles lead the conference in hitting percentage (.244).

Ashland opens GLIAC play on Friday (Sept. 15) at 7 p.m. when it plays at Grand Valley State.
