Wednesday (Dec. 7) has been a very busy one for Ashland University senior outside hitter Alli Cudworth.
In the span of less than two hours, Cudworth has been named both a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division II first-team Academic All-America and an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) D-II honorable mention All-American.
Cudworth becomes the AU volleyball program's first two-time Academic All-America, after earning third-team distinction in 2015. She finished her senior season with 488 kills, 57 service aces, 393 digs and 64 total blocks, and became the third player in program history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
An Integrated Social Studies Education major, Cudworth sports a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average.
Earlier this fall, Cudworth landed first-team All-Midwest Region honors from both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the AVCA, and became the first Eagle volleyball player to earn four first-team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference spots.
Cudworth is the Ashland University athletic program's third Academic All-America in the fall of 2016, following football's Adam Shaheen (first-team) and women's soccer's Jessica Brown (second-team). Since the start of the 2015 calendar year, Eagle student-athletes have earned 11 Academic All-America laurels.
Since 1967, Ashland student-athletes have collected 77 Academic All-America citations.
Cudworth's AVCA All-American award is her second, following a second-team selection in 2015.
