Eagles End Crossover At 3-0 After Win Vs. S&T


THE TURNING POINT: After winning the first two sets, then losing the next two, Ashland trailed 10-9 in the fifth set before pulling ahead and outlasting Missouri S&T, 15-13.

STAT OF THE DAY: Ashland has winning streaks of four, four and three matches this season.

It was a highly-successful 2016 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover for the Ashland University volleyball team, as the Eagles come back at 3-0 following a 3-2 (25-12, 25-23, 22-25, 11-25, 15-13) victory over Missouri S&T.

The Eagles are 13-8, while the Miners are 8-13.

Ashland led 15-11 in the first set before finishing on a 10-1 run, then rallied from an early 5-2 deficit in the second set to edge S&T and take a 2-0 lead.

The Miners won sets No. 3 and 4, and had a 10-9 lead in the deciding set, but there were four subsequent ties, then AU scored the match's final two points for the win.

Senior outside hitter Alli Cudworth paced the Eagles with 18 kills and 12 digs for her 11th double-double of 2016, while senior outside hitter Casey Clark added 14 kills and 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the campaign.

Sophomore setter Kayla Pfeiffer posted 42 assists and 10 digs, while junior defensive specialist Melanie Aguayo and sophomore libero Kaitlin Bean each collected 15 digs.

UP NEXT: Ashland's first home match since Sept. 24, back in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, on Friday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. against Northwood.
