AU Women Drop Spring Opener At Mercyhurst

Ashland University's women's tennis team began its spring season on Sunday (Feb. 24) at Mercyhurst.

The Eagles lost the match 5-2, but were commanding in doubles as they swept the matches.

"We came out on fire in doubles, and we're proud of our doubles play," said Ashland's head tennis coach Lexi Bolesky. "We look to come out stronger in singles with more energy in our next match."

Junior Brianna Brdicka and sophomore Anna Hart won their match 6-4 in first doubles. In the No. 2 doubles slot, it was freshman Gabriella Hudec and sophomore Hazuki Ogino who also won 6-4 to secure a point for Ashland. Completing the sweep of doubles was sophomore Camille Ringot and junior Allison Brooks, winning 6-4.

Only one Eagle was able to win a match in singles play. Brdicka won her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

Ashland will hit the courts again on March 4 against Francis Marion.
