Eagles Ranked No. 5 In Initial Midwest Region Rankings

The Ashland University women's soccer team is ranked No. 5 in the first release of the NCAA Division II Midwest Region rankings on Wednesday (Oct. 18) afternoon.

The top six teams in the region will qualify for the NCAA Tournament with automatic bids going to the tournament champions of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic, Great Lakes Valley and Great Midwest Athletic Conferences.

The Eagles (9-4-1) are riding a hot streak as they come down the stretch of the regular season, having won seven of their last eight games. AU is in second place in the GLIAC standings and has clinched a home game in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals, which will be played Oct. 31 at Ferguson Field.

Ashland has not advanced to the NCAA Tournament since 2004 when the Eagles made it to the Elite Eight.

Of the eight teams listed in the rankings, three hail from the GLIAC – Grand Valley State (No. 1), Ashland (No. 5) and Ferris State (No. 6). The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on the NCAA Selection Show on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.

The Eagles will play their final two conference games of the season this weekend, beginning Friday (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m. against Saginaw Valley State.
