Eagle Women Move Up To No. 4 In Midwest Region

Inching one step closer to its first NCAA Division II postseason appearance in 12 years, Ashland University's women's soccer team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the second set of Midwest Regional rankings, released on Wednesday (Oct. 26) afternoon.

The Eagles are 9-2-4 overall and 6-2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. They will finish the 2016 regular season on Friday (Oct. 28) at 2 p.m. at Tiffin, then play host to a 2016 GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal at Ferguson Field on Tuesday (Nov. 1) at 3 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.

The first rankings release was on Oct. 19. The third release will be on Nov. 2. The NCAA Division II women's soccer tournament selection show will be Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com.

The NCAA Division II women's soccer tournament will be a 48-team, single-elimination format. In each of eight regions, six teams qualify, with the top two teams having first-round byes. The tournament will begin on Nov. 11, with the D-II championship game slated for Dec. 3 in Kansas City, Mo.

In the Midwest Region, automatic qualifiers come from the GLIAC, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The other three teams are chosen as at-large entries. Thirty-seven schools from the GLIAC, GLVC and GMAC, as well as two independent teams, make up the 39 women's soccer teams in the Midwest Region.
