Ashland University wrestling's coaching staff did its recruiting homework, as a group of 12 freshmen from eight weight classes and five states will join the Eagles this fall.

"We have a great group coming," head coach Josh Hutchens said. "Besides athletic ability, these guys will be bring various styles and new techniques into our program."

Of the 2017-18 class, eight of the 12 wrestlers placed at their respective state championships. However, the team they're joining finished sixth in the country at the national championships last season, and only two of Ashland's seven national qualifiers have graduated.

"We have an experienced and accomplished team returning," Hutchens said. "While it is true that many will be using their first year as a learning experience, I expect several to compete for a starting position right away."
