AU Wrestling Makes Academic Top 20

The Ashland University wrestling team is ranked 14th in the country in team grade point average. The Eagles own a team grade point average of 3.093. The 2013-14 Division II All-Academic Team Wrestling Teams are compiled by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.

AU had two wrestlers on the All-Academic First Team. Junior Bryson Hall is a business management major with a 3.43 grade point average. Sophomore Michael Labry is a business management major with a 3.00 grade point average.

Brent Fickel, Tyler Houska and Scott Spreng are second team selections. Fickel is a redshirt freshman with a 3.05 grade point average. Houska is a graduate student majoring in business management. His grade point average is 3.14. Spreng, a senior, has a 3.71 grade point average. He's a biology major.

Four more Ashland wrestlers were named to the honorable mention list. Sophomore Zeb Beam is a nursing major with a 3.18 grade point average. Another sophomore, Nolan Dilts, has a 3.87 grade point average as a sports management major. Junior Josh Hunter is a mathematics major with a 3.10 grade point average. Senior Jacob Piatt is a psychology major with a 3.62 grade point average.

The head coach of the Eagles is Josh Hutchens. AU finished 14th at last weekend's NCAA Championships. Labry, Hall and junior Joe Brandt all earned All-America honors.

California Baptist leads the country with a 3.375 grade point average.
