The first round of the 2019 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships is complete, and Ashland University's women's golf team is in ninth place in the 10-team field with a team score of 338.

Pacing the Eagles' first-day showing was senior Monica Torda, who fired three birdies en route to a 6-over-par round of 78, good for a tie for seventh place through 18 holes, and tied for Torda's best round of the season.

Following right behind is sophomore Sophie Hemleben, who began the day with a birdie on hole No. 1 and is tied for 10th individually after a 79.

Freshman Cece Dillon is tied for 41st after an opening-round 88, and junior Logan Pottorf and freshman Sophia Lowe both are tied for 47th after carding 93s.

The second day of the GLIAC Championships will be on Saturday (April 20). The top four teams after 36 holes will move on to semifinal head-to-head medal play on Sunday (April 21) morning, with the two semifinal winners playing head-to-head medal play for the league title on Sunday afternoon.

Ashland's score puts it 19 strokes behind the two teams sitting in the No. 3 spot, Wayne State and Northwood (319). Grand Valley State is the first-round leader (299), and Northern Michigan sits in second (317) after one round.
