Ashland Women Move Up WBCA Poll – While Staying At No. 1

No NCAA Division II women's basketball team has been ranked consecutively as the No. 1 team in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Coaches' Poll as long as Ashland University's.

As for the total number of times a team has been the top-ranked squad in the WBCA poll, the Eagles are climbing that list, too.

For the 20th consecutive time in the regular season/postseason and the 21st straight time overall, Ashland occupies the No. 1 spot in the latest WBCA poll, released on Tuesday (Jan. 9) afternoon. The Eagles are 15-0 overall, 7-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and recently set a new D-II women's hoops record with their 52nd straight victory.

  • This is the 32nd time Ashland is atop the poll in the regular season/postseason, tying it with Cal Poly Pomona for the third-most in the history of the coaches' poll, which began in 1982-83. Only North Dakota (37) and North Dakota State (33) have been the top-ranked team more.
  • The Eagles are the unanimous top-ranked team in the coaches' poll for the 24th time, preseason and in-season.
  • Ashland boasts the nation's longest active regular-season/postseason streak in the top five of the coaches' poll at 24.
  • As the top-ranked team in Division II, the Eagles are 67-1 all-time.
  • Among GLIAC teams, Ashland is joined in this week's Top 25 by Michigan Tech (No. 16).

Ashland will return to Kates Gymnasium for a home GLIAC contest on Thursday (Jan. 11) at 5:30 p.m. vs. Grand Valley State (13-2, 6-1), receiving votes in this week's WBCA poll.
