It's only been a little more than four years since Ashland University's women's basketball team won its first NCAA Division II national championship, but the team and its head coach will be immortalized among the best in Ohio basketball history next year.

On Thursday (Aug. 10), the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame announced that both the 2012-13 Eagles and head coach Sue Ramsey will be inducted as part of a 2018 class that includes 17 individuals and six teams.

The 2012-13 Ashland women's basketball team won the D-II national title following a 37-1 season that ended with a 71-56 victory over Dowling in the national championship game in San Antonio, Texas. The Eagles also won Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, regular-season and South Division titles.

In addition to guiding the Eagles to that national title, Ramsey was 367-217 (.628) in 20 seasons leading Ashland. The 2011-12 team was the Division II national runner-up, and that year, she was named Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II National Coach of the Year, GLIAC Coach of the Year and Columbus Dispatch Ohio Women's Basketball Coach of the Year – the latter an award she also won in 2012-13.

The 2012-13 team and Ramsey follow Kevin Wilson, former Ashland College men's basketball point guard and 2016 inductee, into the Hall.

The entire 2018 Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame class will be honored at a dinner in Columbus in May.

In a press release, Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame executive director Sheila Fox said, "We strive to have a great representation of Ohio basketball, including high school, all divisions of college basketball, and the professional level. We celebrate those who were either born in Ohio or contributed to the game here. We're working with universities, individuals and historians to capture and preserve the legacies of Ohio's greatest players, coaches and contributors."
