No. 1 Ashland Starts Women’s Elite Eight On March 21 Vs. Buffaloes



The 2017 NCAA Division II women's basketball Elite Eight field is set, and No. 1-ranked Ashland University has an opponent and a start time.

In the reseeded Elite Eight, the 34-0 and top-seeded Eagles will take on No. 8 seed West Texas A&M (26-8) on March 21 at 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall on the campus of Ohio Dominican in Columbus, Ohio. Ashland won the Midwest Regional tournament, while the Buffaloes advance from the South Central Regional.

The four national quarterfinals on March 21 will be No. 3 seed Columbus State (31-1) against No. 6 seed Virginia Union (26-4) at noon, No. 2 seed California Baptist (34-2) vs. No. 7 West Florida (28-6) at 2:30 p.m., Ashland-West Texas A&M at 6 p.m. and No. 4 seed Harding (30-3) vs. No. 5 seed Queens, N.Y. (27-4) at 8:30 p.m.

On March 22, the two semifinals will be at 6 and 8:30 p.m. The 2017 Division II national championship game will be March 24 at 7 p.m., and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.

Ashland won its third Midwest Regional title in the last six seasons, all at Kates Gymnasium, on Monday (March 13) night, 74-62, over Drury.

The Eagles won the Division II national championship in 2013, and was the national runner-up in 2012. Ashland's all-time postseason winning percentage of .783 (18-5) is tied for the best in D-II history with North Dakota State (47-13) among programs with at least 20 games played.
