The No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division II starts the Midwest Region rankings at No. 1, as well.

On Wednesday (Feb. 15) afternoon, the first set of D-II regional rankings were released, and Ashland University's women's basketball team sits atop the Midwest Region. The Eagles are the only undefeated women's basketball team in Division II at 25-0 overall and 17-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

With three regular-season games and the 2017 GLIAC Tournament remaining, Ashland is looking to host its second consecutive Midwest Regional tournament, and host for the fourth time in the last six years.

The second set of regional rankings will be released on Feb. 22, and the third set on March 1. The Division II tournament selection show will be March 5 at 10 p.m. on NCAA.com.

A 64-team tournament (the top eight teams from each of eight regions), the Division II postseason will begin on March 10, and the Elite Eight, Final Four and national championship game will be March 21, 22 and 24, respectively, at Alumni Hall on the campus of Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.

Ashland won the Division II national championship in 2013, and was the national runner-up in 2012. The Eagles have made six D-II postseason appearances, all since 2004, and have an all-time postseason record of 15-5. Ashland's .750 postseason winning percentage is second in Division II history among programs with at least 20 games played.

In the Midwest Region, automatic qualifiers come from the GLIAC, Great Lakes Valley Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The other five teams are chosen as at-large entries.
