Ashland Women Are Unanimous No. 1 Team In WBCA Poll

For the seventh poll in a row, Ashland University's women's basketball team is the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II.

The difference in the poll which came out on Tuesday (Jan. 31) afternoon – it is unanimous.

For the first time since April 2, 2013, immediately following the Eagles' national championship, Ashland has every first-place vote in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. AU (22-0) is one of three undefeated teams in the country, along with No. 3 Colorado State-Pueblo (21-0) and No. 5 Lincoln Memorial (19-0).

Ashland has been the top-ranked team in the WBCA Division II poll 20 times, including the first 12 polls in the 2012-13 campaign, and is 37-1 (.974) all-time when playing as the No. 1 team in the country.

Since 1995-96, the Eagles have been ranked in the WBCA poll 63 times, have been in the Top 10 on 47 occasions and been in the Top 5 in 39 polls. Ashland has been ranked by the WBCA in 28 consecutive polls.

The Eagles are the lone Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference representative in this week's WBCA poll.

Ashland (14-0 GLIAC) starts the second round of GLIAC South Division play on Thursday (Feb. 2) at 5:30 p.m. at Ohio Dominican (15-6, 10-4), and is the only team to so far qualify for the 2017 GLIAC Tournament.

2016-17 WBCA TOP 25 POLL RANKINGS: No. 5 (preseason), No. 3 (Nov. 22), No. 2 (Nov. 29 and Dec. 6), No. 1 (Dec. 13, Dec. 21, Jan. 3, Jan. 10, Jan. 17, Jan. 24 and Jan. 31).
