For the third time in 2016-17 and the seventh time in her Eagle career, Ashland University junior forward/center Laina Snyder is the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week, as released on Monday (Jan. 9) afternoon.
In home wins over Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan, Snyder recorded 37 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, nine steals and a block. Her 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Huskies marked her 34th career double-double.
Snyder is ninth on Ashland's all-time scoring list with 1,263 career points (10 away from Sue Rupp, 1273, in eighth place), and with 755 career rebounds, is one away from tying Alanna Buurma for fifth on that all-time list. She also has 229 career steals, now fifth on AU's all-time rolls.
In the GLIAC this season, Snyder is first in rebounding (9.8 rpg.) and steals (3.5 spg.), tied for second in blocks (1.6 bpg.) and third in scoring (17.7 ppg.).
The No. 1-ranked Ashland women's basketball team (16-0, 8-0) will play host to Ohio Dominican (10-5, 5-3) on Thursday (Jan. 12) at 5:30 p.m.
