Ashland University senior forward Daiva Gerbec (Dublin, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) is this week's GLIAC South Division women's basketball player of the week. The league office made the announcement today.
Gerbec led Ashland, the nation's top-ranked team, to a pair of victories last week. In wins over Walsh and Malone, she averaged 18.5 ppg., 13.0 rpg., 2.0 bpg., and 3.5 apg. She shot 65.4 percent from the floor. Gerbec had a pair of double-doubles (points-rebounds) last week and has registered a twin killing in three consecutive games.
Gerbec and AU senior guard-forward Kari Daugherty (Fresno, Ohio/Dayton) have each won the GLIAC South player of the week award three times this season.
On the season, the senior is averaging 14.5 ppg., 9.3 rpg., and is shooting 59.5 percent (141-of-237) from the floor. She is second on the team in scoring and rebounding.
AU is 24-0, 17-0 in conference action. The Eagles will play at Findlay this Thursday (Feb. 14, 8 p.m.).
