For the second time in 2016-17, Ashland University junior Daniel Roberts and senior Megan Tomei have earned the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's men's and women's field Athlete of the Week honors, respectively.
At the Ohio State Buckeye Classic on Friday (Jan. 6), Roberts and Tomei both improved on their previous NCAA Division II-best and automatic nationals-qualifying efforts.
In the men's weight throw, Roberts boasted a winning mark of 21.47 meters/70-feet-5.25, while in the men's shot put, he took fifth with an improved provisional nationals distance of 16.72 meters/54-feet-10.25. Roberts' top weight throw is 0.69 meters/2-feet-3 better than the next-best D-II mark.
Tomei won the women's shot put in Columbus with a top mark of 15.91 meters/52-feet-2.5. That mark is 0.54 meters/1-foot-9.25 better than the No. 2 distance in D-II.
Ashland's men's and women's indoor track and field teams, both ranked No. 6 in Division II, will compete on Friday (Jan. 13) at the Findlay Border Battle.
