Returning from a 6-11-1 campaign, Ashland University men's soccer has been picked to finish sixth in the 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Wednesday (Aug. 9) morning.

With 14 voting points, AU sits 19 points back of first-place Saginaw Valley State, and seven points ahead of newly-welcomed GLIAC school Purdue Northwest.

Fifteen of the 23 players on Ashland's 2016 roster were freshmen. The Eagles, under second-year head coach Oliver Slawson, will bring back six starters and five reserves along with the addition of 18 newcomers.

Two of the team's top three leaders in assists from 2016, sophomores Liam Duncan and Andrew Pearson, are among those returning.

Ashland begins its season at home at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 vs. Malone, and opens conference play at Davenport on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
