THE TURNING POINT: Lake Erie's first goal to break the scoreless tie came in the 26th minute.
STAT OF THE DAY: Ashland leads the all-time series against the Storm, 5-4.
The Ashland University men's soccer team began another three-games-in-five-days stretch on Wednesday (Oct. 12) afternoon at Lake Erie, losing 3-0.
"The score line doesn't look pretty," said Ashland head coach Oliver Slawson, "but to limit a team to only three shots on goal and to concede from all three is tough to take. Credit to Lake Erie for their hunger and desire in our final third. We can learn from that as individuals and a group in our front half, but it's another game we come away from, having nine and at times 10 freshmen all on the field, wondering how we haven't taken something from the game."
The Eagles are 4-7-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Storm are 7-4-2, 5-4-2.
Lake Erie broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute on the first goal of the season by senior midfielder Samuel Mutemwa, on an assist by sophomore midfielder Ondrej Jelinek. In the 45th minute, freshman forward Max Maguire extended the Storm lead to 2-0 on his third goal of the campaign. Senior forward Stuart Campbell had the assist.
In the 59th minute, Campbell potted his third goal of 2016 on a pass from junior midfielder/forward Chad Bencina.
UP NEXT: Back home to Ferguson Field on Friday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. against Northwood.
