AU Men's Basketball Adds Two In Early Signing Period
The Ashland University men's basketball program received two commitments last week during the early signing period.
The Eagles, who are off to a 1-0 start, have added Jett Speelman (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic) and Wendell Davis (Reynoldsburg, Ohio).
Speelman, a 6-7, 210-pound power forward, was the District 11 player of the year in 2011-12. He was also the conference player of the year and a first team All-Ohio Division Four selection. Speelman averaged 19.5 ppg., and 11.5 rpg., as a junior.
""We are extremely happy to welcome Jett to our basketball family," said AU head coach John Ellenwood. "Jeff is a ferocious rebounder that has a very high skill set for his size. He will be a great addition to this campus."
Davis, a 6-5, 205-pound guard-forward, was a Super 12 selection for Central Ohio (top 12 players in the area) last season. He averaged 16.0 ppg., and 9.0 rpg., and was a first team all-league performer.
"When Wendell walks into a room he automatically brings energy to it," said Ellenwood. "He is a natural leader who is one of the best on-floor communicators I have ever seen. He will be a leader on and off the floor here at Ashland. As a player he is very versatile with the ability to play four different positions."
The Eagles play at Urbana on Tuesay (Nov. 20, 7 p.m.). The next home game is Nov. 29 (5:30 p.m.) against Grand Valley State. That is also the GLIAC opener.
