For the second consecutive season, the Ashland University-Ferris State football game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
On Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. in Big Rapids, Mich., the Eagles and Bulldogs will play a key early-season Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest – and will do so with a live national audience courtesy of ESPN3, WatchESPN and the ESPN app, as part of the NCAA Division II Football Showcase.
In the 2018 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Preseason Division II Coaches' Poll, the Eagles are No. 15 in the country, while the Bulldogs are No. 8. The 2018 GLIAC Football Preseason Poll had Ashland slotted No. 3, and Ferris State at No. 2.
Of the last six GLIAC football championships, four have been won by either the Eagles (2012, 2017), Ferris State (2014) or both (2015).
Last season, on Sept. 23 at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field, unranked Ashland toppled No. 2-ranked Ferris State, 20-3. It was the last time the Eagles were unranked in the AFCA poll, and they moved to as high as No. 9 heading into the D-II postseason.
