The NCAA "dead period" is almost over, and Ashland University athletics will return to action with two basketball games on Friday (Dec. 30).
Finishing the 2016 calendar year, the No. 1-ranked Eagle women will travel to Louisville, Ky., for a game with No. 4 Bellarmine on Friday at 1 p.m., then the AU men will return to Kates Gymnasium on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for a matchup with Thiel.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (LINK) – Ashland (13-0) will play its last non-conference game of the 2016-17 regular season at the Knights (10-0), in a matchup of NCAA Division II top-five teams and 2016 D-II Midwest Regional qualifiers. The Eagles have won 19 consecutive regular-season games, while Bellarmine has won 15 such games in a row.
ONE TO WATCH: Junior forward Laina Snyder is averaging 17.6 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.8 blocks per game, while shooting 53.4 from the field and 71.0 percent from the free-throw line and collecting seven double-doubles.
MEN'S BASKETBALL (LINK) – The Eagles (6-5) return home to play their next-to-last non-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season contest against the Division III Tomcats (6-2). Ashland has won 27 straight non-conference regular-season games at "The Kates."
ONE TO WATCH: Senior guard Adrian Cook is going for 13.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while hitting 57.0 percent from the floor, 52.9 percent from 3-point range and 81.8 percent from the foul line.
